BACKGROUND
In her role as maritime and green energy regional sector lead, Fiona works closely with Torridge District Council to support the development of the Appledore Maritime Innovation Centre (AMIC). Fiona works to engage potential future tenants, partners, and wider industry stakeholders, helping to lay the foundations for a strong and collaborative innovation ecosystem in maritime and advanced marine technologies. She also promotes and raises awareness of AMIC at local, national, and international levels to ensure the centre is well positioned to become a leading hub for maritime innovation once established.
Examples of recent engagement activity include:
- IFMEREE College in Tangier, Morocco, through the British Council’s Going Global Partnerships programme
- Maritime UK SW Clean Maritime Expo in Bournemouth
- 361 Energy Fair in Barnstaple
- North Devon and Torridge Maritime Network
- North Devon College

- Welcoming tenants from late 2026: A new era for maritime innovation
- An 83m usable quayside and slipway, within the Taw-Torridge Estuary and wider Celtic Sea, provides direct access to diverse water depths, tidal ranges, sea states and weather conditions for testing and deployment
- Six workshops, office space and collaborative breakout areas with meeting rooms – designed to support innovation and teamwork
- Free parking and cycle store. Easy access for teams and visitors with on-site electric vehicle charging.
